Physical Characteristics of Grain Dust
-A New Method to Measure the Density of Mixed Dust by Particle Size-

Tomoyuki SENO

Summary

It is important factor to prove the physical characteristics of grain dust for the aim to measure the concentration of airborne particles, to design the dust control system, and so on. To measure the density of mixed dust by particle size, a new technique was developed.
By using elutriation method and photometric method(light scanning method), the density of particulate material can be measured with small quantity of sample.
Method of analysis were described in equation (1)-(8), and fig.6. The parameter e was defined with the parameter f as eq.(10) which was clarified by particle size distribution analysis, experimentally.
Elutriation treatment needs much time comparatively, but if the relation between parameter e and f was proved, and if the computer program was capable, it is easy to analyze and solve, and can be obtained reproducible, agreeable results with little personal measurement error.
