Characteristics of Heating Load for Greenhouses in Mid Winter of Hokkaido

Ikuo HORIGUCHI

Summary

The measurements of heat consumption in a greenhouse were performed in mid winter of Hokfiaido. The maximum heating load coefficient was about 4.8 kcal/m2hr.deg, that was larger than the design value. The reason was surmised that heat consumption from pipe radiator became large because of high temperature difference between center and side of greenhouse in mid winter.
The mean heating load coefficient was about 1.6 kcal/m2hr.deg in nighttime, however the large mean heating load coefficient appeared during the day rather than at night. It was caused by that outdoor temperature was very low during the day and interior temperature had to be kept high because of photo-synthesis of crops.
The daily heating degree-hour measured in this study was compared with the degree-hours that were proposed by some authors. It was recongnized that the corrected Mihara equation had good correlation coefficient with the measured degree-hour.
