Nogyo Shisetsu is the journal of the Society of Agricultural Structures, Japan (SASJ). The journal is devoted to publishing original and technical research in the areas of agricultural structures and associated environmental problems, production, processing, handling and storage of agricultural and food materials, renewable energy and biomass resources and related fields. Interdisciplinary research papers are encouraged. Manuscripts submitted to the journal should comply with the guide below and follow the general style of recent issues of Nogyo Shisetsu.
1. Copyright
SASJ retains the copyright of articles published in this journal.
2. Editorial committee
The committee is formed of the chief editor, several managerial editors and members of the editorial committee. The editorial committee has the responsibility of deciding the acceptance/rejection of manuscripts and general editing of the journal.
3. types of contributions
1) Original research papers (regular papers)
2) Technical reports
3) Review papers
Review papers are, in general, requested by the committee. News and announcements on subjects relevant to the scope of the journal may be sent to the Editorial Office.
1) Original research papers should have academic value in the research areas stipulated above. Only articles not previously published will be considered for publication.
2) Technical reports encompassing technological developments, educational materials etc. which should be of a broad interest and usefulness.
3) Review papers should be based on recent publications and written in a descriptive and readily understandable style.
4. Authorship
Members of SASJ are invited to submit manuscripts. When the head author is a member of the society, the number of co-authors not members of the society are limited to less than or equal to half the total number of authors.
5. Appropriate languages
Articles in either English or Japanese are acceptable for publication.
6. Manuscript format
1) Manuscripts should be written on white A4 sheets using a personal computer.
2) Original research papers and technical reports should be organized in the following order and see below for examples:
i) Title page
ii) Japanese abstract
iii) English abstract
iv) Main text and references
v) Photographs, figures and tables
3) For papers written in English, side margins in excess of 25mm and a top and bottom margin space in excess of 25mm should be left. The text should be typed 26 lines x 50 letters on each page. 4 typed pages of a manuscript approximate 1 published page.
i) Title page
(a) Include: the title, author name(s), address(es) with the contact address of the corresponding author marked clearly.

(b) For serialized manuscripts
    For original papers and technical reports to be submitted as a series, use the following title format.
    [Example] Studies on Sorting Systems for Fruits (Part 1)
- Development of whole image data collecting systems of apples -
    When submitting the first paper in a series, add a summary of the contents of other papers in the series.
ii-iii) Japanese and English abstract
(a) For papers and technical reports written in English, on the first page give the English abstract and keywords. After the main text/reference section, give the title, abstract and keywords in Japanese. The editorial committee will assist with translations into Japanese for papers submitted outside of Japan if required.
(b) Limit the word number for both the English and Japanese keywords to 10.
    [Example] Keywords: biomass, energy,............
iv) Main text and references
(a) Before a main heading leave a space of one line. After subheadings leave 2 spaces.
(b) At the required place of the insertion of figures, photographs and tables, leave a space of 3 lines and write the corresponding number of the insertion in the space. Figures and photographs should be of a suitable size so that after reduction they fit in one text column (7cm width) or two text columns (14cm width).
(c) In the main text, put in italic any symbols used in equations, tables etc.
(d) To allow printing of formulae etc. write any specialized symbols clearly in the margin of the manuscript.
(e) Add any explanation to symbols directly after their first usage.
(f) SI units are recommended.
(g) Write references in the text as 'Anderson (1988)' or '(Anderson, 1988)' For references with more than two authors use 'et al.' as an abbreviation in the text.
(h) List the references in alphabetical order at the end of the main text.
(i) For scientific journals use the following system for arranging your references:
    Author (year): title, journal name (use only commonly accepted abbreviations), issue, pages.

Cha, J.Y., Flores, R.A. and Park, H. (2000): Reduction of carotenoids in corn gluten meal with soy flour, Transactions of the ASAE, 43(5), 1169-1174.
Suzuki, K. and Maekawa, T. (1999): Analysis of sprouting control of brown rice, Nogyo Shisetsu, 30(6), 1-10. (in Japanese with English abstract).
(k) For books, book chapters and theses:
    Author (or Editor) (year): book title, publisher, city, pages.

Houghton, J. (1994): Global Warming, Lion Publishing, Oxford, 192 pp.
Clark, J.A. and McArthur, A.J. (1994): Thermal Exchanges. In: Livestock Housing, Wathes, C.M. and Charles, D.R. (Eds.). CAB International, Wallingford, UK, 97-122.

v) Figures, photographs and tables
(a) Number figures and photographs as Fig. 1, Fig. 2 etc. and tables as Table 1, Table 2 etc.
(b) In general, hand drawings using high quality tracing paper or computer drawn images are acceptable. Add labels and markings directly onto the figures.
(c) The editorial committee will ask authors to redraw any figure considered unclear.
(d) Figures, tables and photographs should be submitted on separate pages. For figures and photographs write the corresponding number and author name at the bottom of each page.
7. submission form
Add a copy of the submission form (a copy of which is printed in the journal) when sending a manuscript, stating: 1) the type of manuscript, 2) the title, 3) author(s) name(s), 4) membership number(s), 5) number of manuscript pages, 6) number of photographs/figures/tables, 7) number of reprints required, 8) name, address, post code, telephone and FAX number, and e-mail address, 9) type of personal computer ( Macintosh/Windows) and software used in the writing the text.

8. method of submission
1) Three copies of the manuscript should be enclosed with a copy of the submission form. Manuscripts should be sent by mail (registered mail, if necessary).
2) State clearly the author's address for correspondence regarding the manuscript.
3) Enclose a self-addressed postcard stating the author's name and the title of the manuscript for use to acknowledge your paper has been received.
4) Send manuscripts and any inquiries regarding editorial matters to the address for the Editorial Committee Office given below.
5) As well as sending the manuscript by mail, we request that "Title, Author(s), and Abstarct" is forwarded to the Editorial Office by e-mail.

9. Manuscript processing

1) The date the manuscript is received at the Editorial Committee Office will be taken as the date of submission.
2) Original research papers will be reviewed by 2 referees and technical reports by 1 referee.
3) The editorial committee will abide by the acceptance or rejection decision of the referee(s). Based on the comments of the referee(s), the editorial committee may ask for the manuscript to be revised.
4) Inquiries about the progress of reviewing etc. to the editorial committee. For inquiries by mail, FAX or e-mail, please state the code number for the paper, title and name of author(s).
5) The author will submit the manuscript corrected according to the refereefs comment to the edit committee by the specified day. If submitting from the author exceeds a specified day, the manuscript will become a repeated post treatment.
10. Submission of the final draft and electronic version
1) For papers accepted for publication, send by mail the final printed draft of the original and one photocopied version including figures and tables and the form sheet of agreement for paying publication charges and reprints.
2) Also send by e-mail the final draft. Combine the title, abstract (summary), keywords, main text and references into one file. Keep tables as separate files. The author(s) is asked to keep backup copies of all files submitted.
11. Authors are asked to check carefully the galley proofs and return them to the Editorial Office within 10 days.

12. Publication charges and reprints
1) For submitted manuscripts (full papers and technical reports) authors are asked to cover costs. For articles up to 6 published pages a fee of 36,000 yen per article is charged. Further pages are charged at 10,000 yen per page.
2) The cost of 50 reprints are included in the publication fee, further reprints can be purchased at a cost of 50 yen per page (50 yen x number of pages x number of required reprints).
3) For color printed page(s) authors must pay an actual extra charge.
